The Unofficial LEGO Technic Builder’s Guide by Pawel Kmiec is a great technical manual for building mechanical models. Unlike some of the previous books I have reviewed, Kmiec’s designs are for the advanced Technic builder. Kmiec does cover some basics, as you can seen in the sample pages below, but this quickly gives way to complex gearboxes and suspension systems. Join me after the break for more of my thoughts on this great LEGO reference!

No Starch Press does an amazing job of print quality. The full-color, durable pages make this a great book to keep around your home LEGO studio. Kmiec includes lots of pictures and renderings to help bring his designs to life. The author does an excellent job describing his designs and any potential pitfalls.

Kmiec’s designs go beyond basic LEGO Technic designs, including both Power Functions and pneumatics. Check out the sample pages below on the various methods to integrate a pneumatic pump. Some of the solutions are compact and streamlined, while others look to be a work of art.

Overall I really like this book. I have only had it a couple of weeks and have just begun to dig into the various designed. It has already found a home among my LEGO Makerspace. I am planning to have a special MOC at Brickworld Tampa this weekend using one of Kmiec’s designs under the hood! Stop by and check it out!
